One of the most unusual buildings in the history of Birkenhead was The Castle looking property near Victoria Park, Tranmere. The Towers on Bebington Road in Higher Tranmere was a large property called Arudy House, which owned by Victor Poutz, a French cotton merchant. Victor Poutz was the first person to import Cotton in to the region. In the 1960s it was pulled down and the site was cleared. The area now has social housing called "The Towers" and the authenticity of the previous building has been consigned to the history books. The Castle of Birkenhead that never was.
